The Art of Autumn Cobeland

The website visitRaleigh.com has a very nice article that features Autumn Cobeland (daughter of Peg and Mac Hulslander) and her art. Here's an excerpt, but see the entire article at blog.visitraleigh.com for great coverage of Autumn and pictures of her art.
Autumn, a Raleigh native with a deep respect for the natural world, grows her own vegetables in a backyard garden and is awaiting the arrival of a personal chicken coop. She has been painting and selling her art in Raleigh since the early 1990s. Since the sixth grade, Autumn has been determined to make a career as an artist. After completing her fine arts degree at Earlham College, she traveled around the world studying art and being influenced by styles and art forms from an array of historic periods and geographic locations. She has studied art in Florence, Prague and Japan.

Spiritual Formation and Journaling begins this Wednesday

Wednesdays, February 20 – March 20 – 6:30pm, Garner Applebee's (directions).
A Weekly Lenten small group experience in spiritual formation
This is primarily an intentionally covenantal community based group for those interested in discovering and sharing their spiritual story with others who have a passion for deeper discipleship. We will work to see, “unsee,” and see again Christ with us through the journeys we share with one another. We will focus on spiritual disciplines and spiritual autobiographies/journaling. In the process, we will not discard the damaged parts of ourselves but gather and reclaim them for daily healing and growth. We will work weekly through Lent.  Please contact Joy Alford  if you are intereted in becoming a part of this group.

Past and Present Meanings of Negro Spirituals

Monday, February 25 & Monday, March 25, 7:00pm, Bradow Room.
Rev. Robert Parrish will lead this course which seeks to examine how Negro Spirituals came about and the secret meaning of their words for slaves. The course will also overview their influences on the progress of African Americans in the United States. Finally, this brief study will help its participants realize the interconnections of this amazing and powerful music on us all.

Feb. 10 Forum: Truth and Hope Poverty Tour

Sunday, February 10, 9:15am, Vaughan Fellowship Hall
Excerpts from the "Truth and Hope Poverty Tour" video
Hear the personal stories of people behind the statistics on poverty in North Carolina. In 2012, the Poverty Tour, under the leadership of NC-NAACP, traveled to 27 towns and cities in North Carolina speaking with those who are often unseen and live in the shadows of our communities. Each of the 1.7 million (18%) people who live in poverty in North Carolina has a story and we will be hearing some of them.
