New Members this Sunday!
Join us this Sunday as we welcome three new members to our CUCC family!  Vernon Burkhart, Maria Mayorga, and Jason Myers will join our congregation as members this Sunday.  Please come out and welcome them!

NC Pride Festival and Parade – Saturday, September 27
Come out and show your support for our LGBT family and friends.  CUCC will have an outreach table and will march in the parade.  If you have never been to Pride, you have missed out on a wonderfully affirming event.  We need volunteers to help set up and be at our table; and we especially would love to have as many as are able to march with us!  The event is located on the Duke East Campus.  Set up begins at 9:00am.  Festival grounds open at 10:00am and the Parade begins at 1:00pm.  Contact Shaleika Covington-Jones or Joan McAllister for more information.

Forum – Sunday, September 28, 9:15am
Dr. Charles van der Horst, physician for HIV/AIDS patients at UNC’s Infectious Diseases Clinic, and strong advocate for Medicaid expansion, will be joining us to talk about the impact on patients resulting from the continued erosion of medical benefits for his patients.   Dr. van der Horst has been an iconic figure at Moral Monday events and is a passionate advocate for health care.

UNC Infectious Diseases Clinic Coat Drive
The Infectious Diseases Clinic at UNC is having a coat drive for their patients.  Many of their patients come to the clinic with no coat or maybe a light windbreaker because they can’t afford a warm winter coat.  If you have a child’s or adult coat that you would like to donate, please drop it off at the church office or in the box provided in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall by Wednesday, October 8th.  If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Marshall at cathyann8504@gmail.com or the church office at 919-787-6422 or office.cucc@gmail.com.

People’s Climate Change Vigil
On September 21, 2014, a national climate change rally was held in New York. In support of that rally, the Triangle Interfaith Alliance held a supportive vigil at Community UCC to coincide with the New York demonstration of support for national action on climate change. Representatives from a wide spectrum of Triangle religious groups participated in the vigil, which was led by CUCC Pastor Steve Halsted. The vigil lasted for approximately an hour. The video included on our website is a 10-minute condensation that shows the breadth and scope of the vigil. In order to make the vigil as "public" as possible, the vigil was held on the corner of Wade Avenue and Dixie Trail on the lawn in front of the church. Thank you Lavon Page and Karen Withem for filming the Vigil.  To see the video, go to: cuccarchive.blogspot.com/2014/09/climate-change-vigil.html

Need Help with Fellowship in October
Welcoming, Fellowship and Growth could use your help with fellowship next month.  We need volunteers to provide fellowship for each Sunday in October.  It’s not hard to do – it’s actually quite fun!  Please contact Bev Stolarick (bstolarick@att.net) or Robert Parrish (rcp7@bellsouth.net) for additional information.

Stewardship Ministry Meets this Sunday
Stewardship Ministry will meet this Sunday, September 28, in the Library.  Please plan to attend as we are planning our fall stewardship campaign.

Documentary - "Pictures from a Hiroshima School Yard"
"Pictures from a Hiroshima School Yard" - a documentary film of children's art by Hiroshima survivors.  The artists are now in their late 70s.  The showing will be at the Rialto Theatre, 1620 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh.  The showing will be on Sunday, September 28, 2:00pm. Donations to NC Peace Action will be accepted.

Pray at the Legislature
Every Tuesday, from 12:30pm to 1:00pm, Duane Beck from the Mennonite Church meets with some of us. Go in the front door off of Jones Street. Turn left and meet at a table in the garden area.  Scriptures will be provided if requested.

Neighbors In Need Offering - October 5
Every fall, CUCC has traditionally supported Neighbors in Need (NIN). We will collect for NIN on Sunday, October 5.  Neighbors in Need is a UCC mission offering that targets needs near to home by supporting ministries of justice and compassion in the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants.  NIN helps make another world possible. It needs YOUR support. Please give generously.  You can find more at the UCC website: www.ucc.org/nin/stories.html.

Walk For Hope - Sunday, October 12

This walk takes place during worship and is the way our youth will worship and share God's love on this special day every year. If you can't come to the walk, remember that there will be no Church School on Sunday, October 12! All are welcome to join us. To join us, please register ASAP. Register at www.walkforhope.com or by calling 919-781-9255. Contact  Śānti Matthews at forsanti@aol.com or 919-961-8814 for additional information.

Come Help PLM Families Together Grow!
PLM Families Together has received a free playground for the families they support!  Now, all they need are people to help them install it!  The group is asking for volunteers on any of the following three dates - October 27, 28, 29 - for various tasks from building, to signing people in, to helping with children's activities, medical volunteers, and food.  Builders must be 14 years or older, but there will be activities available for younger children to participate in on October 29.  PLM FT would love to have a strong CUCC presence helping out.  If you are interested in learning more about this fun opportunity, please contact Laurel Powell at laurel.powell@gmail.com.
