Special Lenten opportunities
Ash Wednesday, February 14
We begin the season of Lent reflecting on the Genesis of our beings [3:19]:
“For dust you are and to dust you shall return,” by marking ourselves with ashes as a tangible reminder of our mortality. The evening will begin with a simple meal followed by our Ash Wednesday worship service.
Dinner 6:00 p.m., Vaughan Fellowship Hall: All are welcome to enjoy a simple soup
supper provided by the CUCC Diaconate.
Worship 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary: We will gather for a simple service of remembrance,
receiving the ashes as a reminder that in living and dying we belong to God.
Lenten Prayer Circle, March 18, 12:00 p.m.
You are invited to participate in a prayer circle following the worship service in the Sanctuary. This is a simple gathering for all who may wish to hold one another in the light as we journey together through Lent.
Palm Sunday, March 25, 10:30 a.m.
Just as Jesus’ early followers lined the streets with the coats off their backs welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem, singing “Hosanna! Savior!” we are invited to make a way for Jesus in our hearts, in our community, and in our worship together. We will process into the sanctuary, beginning in the Wade Ave. parking lot with palms and ukeleles in hand!
Maundy Thursday, March 29
We explore the meaning of the last supper and the power of breaking bread in our community. This is a very meaningful service that reminds us of both the sorrow and hope of the week of Jesus’ death. The service will include hand washing as a way to offer love and service to one another.
Dinner 6 p.m., Vaughan Fellowship Hall: Our friends from St. Paul’s Christian
Church will join us for a simple meal provided by CUCC’s Chancel Choir.
Worship 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary: Combined Maundy Thursday Worship
Service. Join us as we remember the Last Supper of Jesus with the Apostles.
Good Friday Worship Service, March 30, 12:00 p.m.
Good Friday will be marked with a service of prayer, reading and reflection on the story of Jesus’ journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to the hill of Calvary. We invite you to join us on this important day in the life of Christ and in our journey towards Easter.
Good Friday Prayer Circle, March 30, 1:00 p.m.
You are invited to participate in a prayer circle following the Good Friday Service in the Sanctuary. This is a simple gathering for all who may wish to hold one another in the light as we journey together through Lent.
We will gather as one body, with one voice, and one song as we celebrate with one HOPE the
power of resurrection life made possible through the life and love of Christ. Bring a flower for the Easter Sunday resurrection cross, and join us as we worship in resurrection joy!
If you have questions about what to expect at any of these services, speak with Pastor Jenny Shultz-Thomas. We want you to feel comfortable.
